Season 6, Episode 2 - Columbo - "Old Fashioned Murder" (1976)     This episode was directed by Robert Douglas, and written by Peter Feibleman, Peter Fischer and Richard Levinson.  The three best outfits from this episode are:    1) Phyllis Brandt's sparkly gown:     This is floor length black with sheer sleeves and a choker Her motto is - "There is a man's arm to support any woman who wants one." She's always played on her "lovely" looks and no exception here. 2) Milton Shaffer, the murderous security guard's, tropical getaway gear:      We have never related to Columbo so strongly as when he grabs the neckline of Milton's collar to check out his shirt labels.  Every vintage reseller has this impulse.        There he finds a (post haircut, furry) Jockey white cotton undershirt     and a red and white polyester Hawaiian aloha shirt, made in Hawaii.   The matching pocket lining, indicating it's ...

This one was directed by Bernard Kowalski, and written by Lou Shaw, Peter Feibleman, and Henry Garson.    The three best outfits in this episode are:   1) Clare Daley's silver sparkle gown:     This is a metallic maxi gown with a long side slit It has sheer sleeves which she raises and the bullet hole in her gown mismatching with her wound gives Columbo a clue  A perfect cold-as-ice blackmailer slash random robbery victim gown.   2) Ward Fowler's white suit with red carnation:      He wears this suit throughout the majority of this episode, as it's his wardrobe while filming scenes for Detective Lucerne.   It's an off white polyester disco suit, with beige vest underneath, and butterfly collared poly button down shirt under that. Paired with a beige and orange ascot tie, and a kicky red carnation.      He also wears a wide br...

Season 5, Episode 6, Columbo - Last Salute to the Commodore (1976)     This episode was directed by Patrick McGoohan, and written by Jackson Gillis, Richard Levinson, and William Link.   Some people really do not like this episode but it's one of our very favorites. The best way to view this episode is as if everyone involved from writing to directing to every actor and extra - is high on hallucinogenic drugs at almost all times. Some of them are really tripping. Maybe it's just alcohol, but it seems like they're tripping on mushrooms. Columbo invades the personal space of every person he comes across, sometimes several times. It's a psychedelic journey of hilarity. It is the episode from whence the banner photo of this very blog sprang: 1) And this is the best outfit in this episode. Lisa King, naval architect, bedecked in denim flare jeans and a space dye turtleneck sweater with an equestrian ranch landscape motif. It's trippy. And Columbo is tripping.   We w...
