Season 2 Episode 2: “Columbo” The Most Crucial Game (TV Episode 1972)
This episode was directed by Jeremy Kagan, and written by John T. Dugan, William Link and Richard Levinson.
The 3 best outfits in this episode are:
1) The teams and crowds:
The team-issued Rockets football apparel is fresh - Coach Rizzo sports a fire engine red blazer with Rockets pocket insignia, and the other coach has a nice baseball cap, Rockets windbreaker, and a heathered gray athletic tee peeking out:
Also love the Lakers basketball players in purple and gold stripe trim tank tops, yellow silky short shorts, and blue and white striped track pants:
Long-time NBA player, coach, and executive Pat Riley was there in a plain white tee and red silky short-shorts, plus giant mustache:
And finally the football fans in the crowd as Hanlon walks by in his Ding-a-Ling Ice Cream costume and Adidas Stan Smith sneakers - they’re all basic yet stylish in supremely colorful slacks and button downs looking awesome:
2) Hanlons’ green blazer. This appears to be the same exact single-breasted dark green blazer with leather covered buttons that Robert Culp wore in S1E2 Death Lends a Hand. It may be the exact same dark coral pants as well:
He knows what he likes, and he goes with it. The wide brown tie with white coat of arms insignia printed all over is new.
3) Eric Wagner’s navy swim trunks with wide white stripe trim paired with a taboo necklace:
Much like Greg Brady, Eric's necklace turned out to be bad luck:
The funniest line in this episode is when Columbo calls Eve Babcock "Miss Babcock," and she tells him not to be "so Cincinnati":
Huge bonus points for decor go out to Eve Babcock’s bright pink matching rattan wicker peacock chairs:
Eve's whole apartment is glorious - the taxidermied snake on the table truly sets the mood:
Extra bonus points for decor also awarded to Eric Wagner’s black satin sheets:
