Columbo Clothes and Laughs

Season 7, Episode 5, Columbo - The Conspirators (1978)     This episode was directed by Leo Penn, and written by Howard Berk, Pat Robison, and Richard Levinson.  This is technically the last of the 70's Columbo episodes and should thus end our journey into the 70's clothes and humor of this fantastic detective TV show, BUT we still have the two pilot episodes "Prescription Murder" (1968) and "Ransom for a Dead Man" (1971) to go back to and explore, so this is not quite goodbye yet!   The best outfits in this episode are:    1) Joe Devlin's layers of earth toned natural fibers:      He wears so many layers of wool throughout this episode, here he's paired some brown wool tweed trousers with a forest green button down shirt under a saddle brown wide-wale corduroy jacket and a blood red tie.  Good for playing the banjo while secretly fundraising for guns.  2) Jensen, the Winnebago dealer slash guns dealer, in his western get up He's we...

Season 2, Episode 2 - " Columbo - The Greenhouse Jungle - 1972 " This episode was directed by Boris Sagal and written by Jonathan Latimer, Richard Levinson and William Link.  The three best outfits in this episode are:  1) Gloria West’s pink on pink look:     Gloria is rocking polyester pink bootcut pants with a hot pink side-tie halter top     She finishes the look with big striped acrylic hoop earrings, gold bangle bracelets, and a pink diamond ring.        2) Cathy Goodland’s red dress:     Cathy is wearing a polyester plunging v-neck halter dress with white trim and a bow tie on front.     This is summery, fresh and adorable.   3) Cathy Goodland’s white and yellow flower dress over shorts:        This is a pastel yellow and white floral lace cut out maxi dress with a side slit and the coolest matching shorts underneath:     The funniest line in this episode is when Columbo absolu...

 Season 1, Episode 5 - "Columbo" Lady in Waiting (TV Episode 1971) This episode was directed by Norman Lloyd, and written by Stephen Bochco, Richard Levinson, and Barney Slater. The three best outfits in this episode are: 1) Beth Chadwick's (who happens to be Ma’am from Diff’rent Strokes) magenta velvet brocade ensemble:     This is a high waisted floral brocade skirt with velvet trim and matching long coat with a Rick James enormous collar, paired with ribbed turtleneck, a knit cap and gloves.   Beth’s brother’s death was “the best thing that ever happened to her” and her post-villainy wardrobe certainly reflects that.   2) Beth’s pumpkin polo and flares:        She’s wearing a Leon Levin-style short sleeve polo shirt covered with a big pumpkin and pumpkin leaf motif, paired with hiphugger flares and saddle tan leather wedge sandals.       This outfit is pure October 1971 in a nutshell.
