Columbo Clothes and Laughs

(For background on how these cards came to be, please check out How the Columbo Dog Head Greeting Cards Came to Be )   Round two of the Columbo Parody Dog Head Greeting Cards !   Last week we introduced the First Four - let's keep it rolling!      1) This week we start off with a scene inspired by " Double Exposure " (1973). This features a light Yellow Labrador Retriever dog wearing a yellow leather moto jacket, adjusting a surveillance camera in a supermarket by a sign that says " Lower prices for finer meats ." The darker Yellow Labrador Retriever next to him says he doesn't know how the hell he does it .  This would be a great card for someone who got a new job, or graduated, or achieved something remarkable. greeting card how do you do it? Season 7, Episode 1 - Columbo - "Try and Catch Me" (1977)   This episode was directed by James Frawley, and written by Gene Thompson, Luther Davis , and Richard Levinson.  The Harold and Maude episode! The three best outfits from this episode are:    1) Abigail Mitchell's beach outfit -      The vengeful mystery writer is wearing a bold red and navy psychedelic graphic scarf on her head that matches her lipstick perfectly.        She's paired this with some cobalt blue slacks and wedge loafers, and a navy blue knit ribbed collared cardigan sweater with wooden toggles Perfect for almost being trampled by horses 2) Abigail's pink plaid suit:   She's sporting a tassel fringe tweed plaid suit in ivory, pink and purple.    Short skirt and a long jacket.  3) The crowd of women at the ladies' luncheon, including Abigail:  The hats! The yellow tablecloths and bouquets, the collars, it's 1977 like a jello mold o...

    So I'm reading this 1997 Cigar Aficionado interview with Peter Falk and he's talking about Dog the basset hound.    And he says "The problem with having a dog is they don't live long enough. The first dog we used was in '71, and he was very old. He passed away in '73 and his replacement was much younger.    "I never took much time in makeup; a glance in the mirror on the way to the john--that's it. If you're playing Columbo, who cares what you look like, as long as you look bad. So I'm ready fast, but we couldn't shoot. We had to wait for the dog. He was in makeup--sitting in a chair, munching dog bones while they applied the clown white to make him look older. Thirty minutes shot to hell."     And then I looked at the photos of Dog I have from 1974 and I'll be darned, sure as hell the dog has white clown makeup all over his snout!      This probably looked better in the days before HDTV
