Columbo Clothes and Laughs

  Pilot 2, Columbo - Ransom for a Dead Man (1971)     This is the second Columbo pilot movie to feature Peter Falk, and was directed by Richard Irving. It was written by Dean Hargrove, Richard Levinson, and William Link.    This is the last episode we are going to document, here we go! The three best outfits in this episode are:  1. Leslie Williams's pilot outfit:  Mrs. Williams is wearing a floral silk scarf on her head and amber aviator shades.  Her long white coat is lined in bright red silk, and her pants and shoes are all white. She's like the Red Baron, but the White Baron.  2. Nancy the secretary's gray and white citrus wedge skirt with a necktie:  She's wearing an a-line miniskirt with the cutest print that resembles lemon slices, but in gray.  Her matching blouse and wide white tie bring it all together.    3. Pilot 1, Columbo - Prescription Murder (1968)   This was the original first pilot Columbo TV Movie. It was directed by Richard Irving, and written by William Link and Richard Levinson.    From the very opening scene with women in a rainbow palette of sparkling and fluffy gowns, this pilot movie is heavy on the spectacular clothes and light on the comedy, so we will roll with it.   The three best outfits in this episode are:  1) Joan Hudson's goddess gown       This is a full length pink ancient Greek or Roman gown with gold trim   It matches Columbo's ice cream. 2) Carol Flemming's sailor nightgown and sunglasses:  She's in a full length ivory velvet nightgown with a dark brown sailor scarf tied in front Inexplicably she wears her sunglasses at night until she takes them off to tell her husband he is sleeping in the guest room 3) Joan Hudson's lime green knit racerback cut-out tank dress:  She's accessorized with some light yellow ...

Season 7, Episode 5, Columbo - The Conspirators (1978)     This episode was directed by Leo Penn, and written by Howard Berk, Pat Robison, and Richard Levinson.  This is technically the last of the 70's Columbo episodes and should thus end our journey into the 70's clothes and humor of this fantastic detective TV show, BUT we still have the two pilot episodes "Prescription Murder" (1968) and "Ransom for a Dead Man" (1971) to go back to and explore, so this is not quite goodbye yet!   The best outfits in this episode are:    1) Joe Devlin's layers of earth toned natural fibers:      He wears so many layers of wool throughout this episode, here he's paired some brown wool tweed trousers with a forest green button down shirt under a saddle brown wide-wale corduroy jacket and a blood red tie.  Good for playing the banjo while secretly fundraising for guns.  2) Jensen, the Winnebago dealer slash guns dealer, in his western get up He's we...
