Columbo Clothes and Laughs

Season 7, Episode 5, Columbo - The Conspirators (1978)     This episode was directed by Leo Penn, and written by Howard Berk, Pat Robison, and Richard Levinson.  This is technically the last of the 70's Columbo episodes and should thus end our journey into the 70's clothes and humor of this fantastic detective TV show, BUT we still have the two pilot episodes "Prescription Murder" (1968) and "Ransom for a Dead Man" (1971) to go back to and explore, so this is not quite goodbye yet!   The best outfits in this episode are:    1) Joe Devlin's layers of earth toned natural fibers:      He wears so many layers of wool throughout this episode, here he's paired some brown wool tweed trousers with a forest green button down shirt under a saddle brown wide-wale corduroy jacket and a blood red tie.  Good for playing the banjo while secretly fundraising for guns.  2) Jensen, the Winnebago dealer slash guns dealer, in his western get up He's we...

Season 4, Episode 6, Columbo - A Deadly State of Mind (1975)   This episode was directed by Harvey Hart, and written by Peter Fischer, William Link and Richard Levinson.    The three best outfits in this episode are:    1)  Giving Lieutenant Columbo a run for his money in the all-brown arena, Dr. Mark Collier in a brown-on-brown-on-brown-on-brown get up:  Mark is wearing a camel cashmere turtleneck, under a khaki camp shirt button down, under a shiny khaki jazzed up trench coat with wide collar and shoulder epaulets.  He's paired these layers of tan with chocolate brown suede leather pants.  Even his murder weapon of choice, the fire place poker, is brown.  2) Dr. Anita Bolden's pink on pink outfit:  She's sporting wide cotton candy pink pants and sweater with a big collared maroon blouse (or Dickey collar) underneath.      She's wearing white loafer heels on the color coded lined hallway floor as she subliminally rem...

 Season 4, Episode 3, Columbo - By Dawn's Early Light (1974)     This episode was directed by Harvey Hart, and written by Howard Berk, Richard Levinson and Bill Link.    There are not many non-uniform outfits in this episode set at a military academy, but we found a few hidden gems.  1) William Haynes' shiny western suit:  Amazing western belt buckle. This suit has all the embroidered chainstitch darts, bells, and whistles on front and back     Pinstripes too. He looks primed to turn a conservative military academy into a co-ed juco.     2) The Valley Stream girl in her patchwork western:   Paired with a navy knee length pleated skirt. Such a cool western blouse.  She's skeptical but helpful and looks great.  3) Miss Brady's sweater vest and pink blouse:  This appears to be a Leon Levin-esque long sleeve polo or button down blouse under a vibrant abstract striped v-neck pullover sweater vest.
