Season 2 Episode 8:  “Columbo” Double Shock (TV Episode 1973) This episode was directed by Robert Butler, and written by Jackson Gillis, Steven Bochco, and Richard Levinson.  The three best outfits in this episode are:  1) Dexter’s plaid suit with suede accents:     Dexter is wearing a full on matching suit of Glen plaid tweed wool. The blazer has side slits and western-style maroon suede trim on the epaulets, pockets, and back yoke.            He wears a red turtleneck underneath:        2) Lisa Chambers’ Macbeth tartan blazer over white:        She is running around like a cat in a white butterfly collared blouse, unbuttoned, white flare pants, white heels, and a wide white headband:      She is a health nut about to marry someone twice her age and her energy is bubbling over       3) Dexter’s navy and gold textured blazer during the cooking show:    ...

Columbo Laughs: Dog's Clown Makeup

So I'm reading this 1997 Cigar Aficionado interview with Peter Falk and he's talking about Dog the basset hound.    And he says "The problem with having a dog is they don't live long enough. The first dog we used was in '71, and he was very old. He passed away in '73 and his replacement was much younger.    "I never took much time in makeup; a glance in the mirror on the way to the john--that's it. If you're playing Columbo, who cares what you look like, as long as you look bad. So I'm ready fast, but we couldn't shoot. We had to wait for the dog. He was in makeup--sitting in a chair, munching dog bones while they applied the clown white to make him look older. Thirty minutes shot to hell."     And then I looked at the photos of Dog I have from 1974 and I'll be darned, sure as hell the dog has white clown makeup all over his snout!      This probably looked better in the days before HDTV

Season 2 Episode 7:  “Columbo” The Most Dangerous Match (TV Episode 1973) This episode was directed by Edward Abroms, and written by Jackson Gillis, WIlliam Link and Richard Levinson.  There are not many outfits in this episode as most of the action occurs on one day and features men in suits, but we found a few looks to celebrate.  1) Emmett Clayton’s tan thin-wale corduroy suit with ribbed rust brown turtleneck:        It has satin accents and a harmonica pocket:      Perfect for chess, and throwing your opponent in a garbage disposal.  2) Linda Robinson’s patterned blazer that looks like the cane seat of a Marcel Breuer Cesca chair:      The jacket and blouse are big collared and it’s matched with a plaid miniskirt and a suede bucket purse:    Looks cute and also chair-like.  3) Award goes out to Emmett Clayton’s change of shoes. All day he’s wearing dark brown loafers with buckles. As he gets on the...
