Season 3, Episode 4, Columbo - Double Exposure (1973)

This episode was directed by Richard Quine, and written by Richard Levinson, William Link, and Stephen Cannell.

The three best outfits in this episode are:

1) Brimmer/Hanlon/now Dr. Bart Keppel's green blazer!

Robert Culp trots out this dark green jacket with leather covered buttons and western back styling for a third time. Recall he wore this in both "Death Lends a Hand" and "The Most Crucial Game."

He goes back to his first look by pairing it again with a bright red tie, opting this time for beige slacks:

2) Keppel's supermarket surveillance outfit:

He's wearing a yellow canvas cropped motorcycle jacket, tight bootcut flare dark denim jeans, and white sneakers, probably pro-Keds

We wonder if the yellow jacket is a nod to the yellowjacket hornet - Keppel also has a vicious stinger.

These next two screenshots really encapsulate the vibe Columbo Clothes and Laughs is aiming for:

Lower prices on finer meats. Perplexed Columbo. The teal, the pink, the chocolate syrup, Keppel's striped belt. It's pure perfection, how the hell do you do it.

3) Mrs. Norris' yellow stripe gown:

We don't see much of this dress, but the covered shoulder buttons and two-tone bright yellow stripe and the zipper cuff leave us wanting more of the butter stick looking garment.

Bonus points for accessories go out to the sunglasses Keppel wears while cheating at golf:

Amazing amber sunglasses with side shields.

And also to Keppel's red white and blue stripe belt:

Eagle eyes for fashion will note that the same orange psychedelic blouse under a black vest and skirt set worn by movie attendee Mrs. Halstead were also worn by Mrs. Peck in "Double Shock"

The funniest lines in this episode are when Columbo eats caviar:

He realizes he has just shoveled about $15 worth of leftover party caviar into his mouth and says "We'd better get out of here. We're going to get arrested."

And when inveterate capitalist Keppel says "Nothing can happen in this country until someone sells something."

Also when Columbo says a sign that his uncle who recently got into real estate has "made it" - he sends out embossed Christmas cards:

Bonus points for decor go out to Keppel's office:

The exterior is mint and lime green with striking mud dauber wasp wall art:

The interior is like a rainbow explosion:

 Oh that is good.

Is there a best outfit poll this week?

Spot on! It was only 1973 but yes! No poll this week, there were only a very few notable outfits and several of those were only notable because they were worn in previous Columbo episodes. Thank you for asking!
