This episode was directed by Harvey Hart, and written by Howard Berk, Richard Levinson and Bill Link. 
 
There are not many non-uniform outfits in this episode set at a military academy, but we found a few hidden gems. 

1) William Haynes' shiny western suit: 



Amazing western belt buckle. This suit has all the embroidered chainstitch darts, bells, and whistles on front and back
 

 
Pinstripes too. He looks primed to turn a conservative military academy into a co-ed juco. 



 
 2) The Valley Stream girl in her patchwork western: 



 Paired with a navy knee length pleated skirt. Such a cool western blouse. 


She's skeptical but helpful and looks great. 

3) Miss Brady's sweater vest and pink blouse: 



This appears to be a Leon Levin-esque long sleeve polo or button down blouse under a vibrant abstract striped v-neck pullover sweater vest. Her wardrobe is surprisingly festive for a dour lady working for a psychopath at a military school. 

Bonus points for fashion go out to the Haynes Academy t-shirts and ringers. These appear to be 100% cotton very possibly 70s generic Fruit of the Loom RN 13765 tees. 


The main cadets wore these plain blank white tee shirts, and some of the plebes and cadets running in the background wore branded white and navy ringers: 



Bonus points for fashion also awarded to Columbo's white undershirt wife beater tank top: 


He showed up at the school with nothing and had to sleep in his clothes. 


The funniest lines in this episode are when the Colonel tells William Haynes that he is the reason this country is a moral junkyard, all while plotting Haynes' murder: 




And when Columbo tries to get directions from plebes who are not allowed to speak: 




Another heartwarming scene that deserves an award is when Columbo is in the bathroom with cadet Morgan and asks about the rings some guys wore around their necks: 










The fact that Teresa still had his ID bracelet eight years after high school pleased him.

  Season 2 Episode 2:  “Columbo” The Most Crucial Game (TV Episode 1972) This episode was directed by Jeremy Kagan, and written by John T. Dugan, William Link and Richard Levinson.  The 3 best outfits in this episode are:  1)  The teams and crowds:  The team-issued Rockets football apparel is fresh - Coach Rizzo sports a fire engine red blazer with Rockets pocket insignia, and the other coach has a nice baseball cap, Rockets windbreaker, and a heathered gray athletic tee peeking out:       Also love the Lakers basketball players in purple and gold stripe trim tank tops, yellow silky short shorts, and blue and white striped track pants:         Long-time NBA player, coach, and executive Pat Riley was there in a plain white tee and red silky short-shorts, plus giant mustache:         And finally the football fans in the crowd as Hanlon walks by in his Ding-a-Ling Ice Cream costume and Adidas Stan Smith sneakers - they’re all basic yet stylish in supremely colorful slacks and button downs

Season 3, Episode 7, Columbo - Swan Song (1974)

S eason 3, Episode 7, Columbo - Swan Song (1974)   This episode was directed by Nicholas Colasanto (Coach from Cheers), and written by David Rayfiel, Stanley Ralph Ross, and Richard Levinson.  This is the Johnny Cash episode! There are not many exceptional outfits in this episode, as most of the characters are dressed in choir robes, seamstress coats, or as is the Man in Black - head to toe black. But let's celebrate what we can. 1) Tommy Brown's Levi's 70671 split tail dark denim chore coat:    He breaks his all-black rule only in the final scenes to don this long jean jacket with western styling, over his all-black western clothing and indigo bandana scarf.  The unrepentant ladies' man gets a backhanded dig in at Columbo as he boards a round trip plane for San Francisco, but he looks good doing it. This is a rockstar's jacket.   Keep a lookout for this jacket repurposed in the next season by a murderous photographer.    2) Tina's embroidered western shirt:
