Season 1, Episode 6, Columbo - Short Fuse (1972)

Season 1 Episode 6:  "Columbo" Short Fuse (TV Episode 1972)

This episode was directed by Edward Abroms, and written by Jackson Gillis, Lester Pine and Tina Pine.

The three best outfits from this episode are:

1) Roger Stanford, genius fop murderer, in a blue paisley puffy shirt, skin-tight velour western flares, gold science society medallion:

He later completes the look with a teal suede cafe racer jacket with covered buttons:

2) Every secretary at Stanford Chemical is dressed in a very fun outfit, it’s hard to pick one, but we will go with Nancy in an orange belted mini-dress with contrast gold turtleneck and gold flare sleeve cuffs with t-strap leather heels:

Her silver circle belt buckle and silver circle shoulder pin put this over the top

3) Mrs. Buckner’s shiny silver patterned gown that she wore to the Opera board meeting:

This has layers, something like a cape dress over a long skirt:

She accessorizes with big turquoise, white gold and diamond jewelry:

The funniest line of this episode is when Roger uses the silly string and yells “Workers arise!” (This episode aired in January 1972, the “sprayable foam resin” called “Silly String” wasn’t patented until December 1972, leaving fans to speculate that the Columbo prop-master found a prototype can.)

The entire silly string scene (both of them) are absurd in the best way

Love Roger’s Canadian tuxedo with butterfly collar and floral western shirt.

Even Columbo fell prey.

It would be remiss not to mention the fantastic "go-go music" playing in the background as the limo drives and explodes in the rain. Fans speculate it was performed by The Wrecking Crew, a Los Angeles session band in the 60s and 70s. It's incredible, do not miss this: "Columbo Short Fuse: Narcisse Club Psychedelic Music:

Is Columbo 1) checking out the woman in the orange dress, 2) giving her the stink eye, or 3) acting normally as anybody w a glass eyeball would?

He’s def giving the stink eye to the murderer’s silly string recklessness
I think it's #3, Nancy has just shown them where the extra cigars are kept, in a highly competent and professional manner. He's puzzled but not by Nancy! Her outfit is so great he may be checking that out 🕵️‍♂️

Columbo is intrigued the most by: 1) cigars & 2) murder

I saw some theories on Twitter that Columbo is an asexual autistic person and his special interest is solving crime. I don't know about that 100% but it tracks. He also likes dogs of all kinds and food. But mostly cigars and solving murders committed by rich people 😉
