Season 6, Episode 1 - Columbo "Fade into Murder" (1976)

The Shatner episode!

This one was directed by Bernard Kowalski, and written by Lou Shaw, Peter Feibleman, and Henry Garson.

The three best outfits in this episode are:

1) Clare Daley's silver sparkle gown:

This is a metallic maxi gown with a long side slit

It has sheer sleeves which she raises and the bullet hole in her gown mismatching with her wound gives Columbo a clue

A perfect cold-as-ice blackmailer slash random robbery victim gown.

2) Ward Fowler's white suit with red carnation:

He wears this suit throughout the majority of this episode, as it's his wardrobe while filming scenes for Detective Lucerne.

It's an off white polyester disco suit, with beige vest underneath, and butterfly collared poly button down shirt under that. Paired with a beige and orange ascot tie, and a kicky red carnation.

He also wears a wide brimmed Panama hat with a black satin sash that Columbo also has a ball with:

This is the first episode of six that features Columbo (Peter Falk)'s real life second wife - Shera Danese plays Molly the secretary. It is our opinion that Columbo is extra spunky and laughing and flirtatious in this episode because Shera was watching in the wings. This scene is a case in point.

3) Sid Daley's navy Izod Lacoste golf sweater:

This appears to be the usual Orlon Acrylic fabric used for Izod Lacoste cardigan sweaters in the 70s, and not mohair, as is written.

Honorable mention to Ward Fowler's murderwear that he stole from the studio wardrobe closet:

What we would give to teleport to 1976 and get into this wardrobe closet today...

 We want it all.

The funniest scene in this episode is when Columbo is clowning for Ward Fowler's video camera

They are both losing it laughing, cracking up through this scene

Also funny to have the JAWS shark randomly swimming around in the background of this scene:

Bonus points for decor go out to Ward Fowler's trailer:

Orange and brown psychedelic tribal pattern wallpaper with a brown and orange floral couch and pops of lime green curtains

With the Hollywood vanity mirror lights, bravo.

Bonus points for accessories go out to Ward Folwer's snakeskin patent leather high heel loafers

Columbo tries them on and instantly grows 4 inches taller

Gotta finish up with Ward Fowler snapping his fingers saying "Damn!" when he knows Columbo has him busted

Damn!
